How long are you in a coma before you die? What percent of Americans have brain tumors? Is it likely since my great grandmother had a brain tumor that I will?

  (0.7967)   My husband was diagnosed with Glioblastoma Multiforme about 4 months ago. He has had surgery, radiation and chemotherapy; right now we are waiting to have an MRI done. He had his last treatment in August. What is next? What can I expect from here? Are there any new treatments or research available?

  (0.7967)   My sister-in-law just had surgery to remove a tumor identified as glioblastoma multiforme. The tumor was the size of a lemon. The doctor says that if it recurs, she is not a candidate for another surgery. How likely is ? What are the chances of complete recovery?

  (0.7967)   Having reviewed some statistical information, I still want to know: how many GBMs are diagnosed say, in a year, or by state, or by country. If, on average, a neurosurgeon only treats one per year, they canno be THAT common, can they?

  (0.7742)   My mother has been diagnosed with Glioblastoma Multiforme, tumor location: brain stem. She had a stereotactic biopsy and the doctor prescribed 40 radiation treatments with daily intake of Temodal 140mg. The radiation treatment clinic doesn~t work on weekends, so she goes 5 weekdays and pauses for 2 day week-end. However, the doctor told her to take Temodal even for week-ends till the rest of radiation treatment. That means that she would end up taking Temodal for 56 days! On the information sheet for Temodal, it is stated that Temodal should be taken for 42, up to 49 days max! Could you please tell me is it safe for my mother to take Temodal longer then 49 days? Is it safe to follow our doctor~s orders in continuing with Temodal until the end of 40 week-day radiation treatment (and end up taking Temodal for 56 days)? Should she continue taking Temodal on week-ends when she doesn~t go for radiation treatment?

  (0.7742)   My friend was diagonized in early May, 2004, with Glioblastoma Multiforme. He had surgery, radiation, and chemotherapy. After radiation, they did an MRI and it showed a new growth so he started the chemotherapy and, after four chemo treatments, they did another MRI and it had gotten bigger. They now want to do another surgery and try a different chemo. Are there any significant things we should worry about with the second surgery and, since it is still growing after radiation and chemotherapy, what are his chances of survival and how long?

  (0.7742)   What is the difference between diffuse astrocytoma grade three, a GBM, and AA grade three? Is it common for low white counts and low platelet counts to continually delay temodar treatments by a couple of weeks?

  (0.7742)   My 57-year-old brother has Glioblastoma Multiforme. He is on steroids and has been since Oct. Within the last five weeks, he has been bruising easily/bleeding on his lower arms and wrists. Does anyone know how this can be prevented? All he is done thus far is cover his lower arms with gauze! If someone could get back to me before 4:00 p.m. today, it would be greatly appreciated! Also, as long as we are on the subject, does anyone know of a doctor in New Jersey that is willing to work "outside the box" and supplement chemotherapy with additives, such as verapimil, tamoxifen, etc.?

  (0.7742)   My father was diagnosed with Glioblastoma Multiforme in mid-December 2003. The tumor is located in the left frontoparietal area and was thus deemed inoperable. He is about to begin the sixth and final week of radiation. He has also gone through his first round of chemotherapy (Temodar). During the course of his treatment, he has been going to work daily. Over the course of the last five weeks, his right side mobility had improved substantially and his radio-oncologist expressed cautious optimism regarding his prognosis. However, just as he is to begin his sixth week of radiation, he lost his balance twice and fell, and has lost some of the movement in his right arm. My question is: what can cause such deterioration of his neurological condition? Can it be explained by exhaustion, a side-effect of the treatment, or that the treatment has not halted the tumor's growth?

  (0.7742)   My father has just been diagnosed with Glioblastoma Multiforme. He is starting radiation tomorrow. I want to get him on some nutritional supplements to help out with energy, weight loss, hair loss, etc. I have some specific products from a company for which I am an Independent Distributor. Some of the products do have herbs in them. My first question is: my sister's concern that some herbs will make the tumor grow more. Have you ever heard of anything to this effect? Then secondly, I am under the impression that antioxidants are not absorbed when going through radiation treatment. Is this correct or does it hinder the radiation treatment in any way? I ask because the multivitamin I would like him to take does have antioxidants in it. Maybe I should be asking a nutritionist this. Any thoughts on this?
